Can I Carry ~150lb Boat On The Roof Of My 2017 Ford Edge With No Rails And A Panoramic Roof

Question:

Objective is to car-top an aluminum boat, 12 maybe 14foot long, under 150lbs wt, 55beam. eg Meyers Pro 14 Is there a suitable roof rack system to do that? What does the rack alone weigh? My big concern is the 167lb limit on the Edge.

You are right to be concerned about the weight limit on your 2017 Ford Edge if you will be carrying a boat that heavy. The lightest roof rack I found weighs 13lbs. It would be the 2017 Ford Edge Roof Rack by Rhino Rack. I am guessing that while your boat is less than 150lbs it comes very close to that weight. This rack is rated to carry 165lbs and your boat and the aftermarket roof rack is almost at the weight limit of your rack and that is without the weight of the your boat carrier. I do not have a rack that will allow you to carry your boat on the roof of your 2017 Ford Edge without exceeding the weight limit on your vehicle. In order to carry that boat with this vehicle you will have to use a trailer.
