This adapter allows your cargo carrier to fold up and out of the way. With the adapter you will also increase the ground clearance between the carrier's platform and the ground to eliminate bottoming out.

Excellent AdditionI had only purchased the cargo carrier that this unit attaches to because I was afraid that the folding attachment would have the carrier folding into the back of our vehicle, a Honda Element. After realizing that I would rather fool with the potential trouble than to not have a folding carrier at all, I decided to give this thing a shot. It is PERFECT! I couldn't be more pleased. The carrier does stick out a bit farther, but that allows us to actually let down the tailgate and let our dog out the back of the vehicle. This is an excellent addition to the very well made cargo carrier. I would spend the money and buy these two items again and again. Also, etrailer.com is one of the best companies I have ever dealt with. Fast shipping, good communication and excellent customer service. I'm a repeat etrailer.com customer for a reason.
Product was exactly as described and quickly shipped to my home. Very pleased. Will check with this company before buying items such as this receiver. I already had a cargo carrier and an extension. Used the cargo carrier on my Nissan Pathfinder for trips. Carry bikes, coolers, chairs, etc. The only problem was taking it off when we got there so it wasn't in the way of parking and other trips. With this receiver I can simply fold the cargo carrier up and out of the way. It easily folds down if I need access to the rear cargo area of the pathfinder. My wife like it too because she doesn't like driving with it down with nothing on it.
The cargo carrier folding adapter fit perfectly. Will definitely return to Etrailer for all my towing needs.
Worked better than expected. Great addition to my suv during hunting season and will allow me to keep the rack installed on non hunting days.

This adapter was exactly what we needed. So glad we purchased it! It is SOLID! Easy to install and super easy to use! We also purchased a locking hitch pin so we could leave the trailer folded up and attached to the truck!

Works great . Sets the basket up higher so it does not drag and folds up out of the way to park when not in use. Also makes it easy to put on the hitch when it is folded up one person can put it on

It has bee been on the back of the car most of the year i have had it and still working great very happy with the way it works and holds up
Ordered a Cage adapter for my 2008 4Runner. The package came in and I assembled it. Instructions were somewhat lame, but for anyone who installs things it didn't take long for me to have the adapter up and running. Great Product!
I will now be able to keep my cage away from the muffler when I use it. Also I will be able to put the cage up when I am not using it.

One Year later and the cargo extender has worked out great! Instead of having to take the basket off and on all the time, we can just place the basket in in the up position. Im now able to use my basket 24/7! The extender for the basket is a real convenience. The one thing it solved is that I no longer have to worry about my muffler melting things placed in my basket near it. In regard to one of the comments Ive seen here about not able to carry a wheelchair. Ive used the extender and hauled back at least 10 50 lb cement bags on my basket with the extender on my 4 runner without any problems from my nearest Lowes which is 62 miles from my home in Texas. However, like every basket whether you use an extender or not, there is only a certain amount of weight you can place in any basket safely! In summary the extender sold by etrailer is something everyone who uses a cargo basket needs! Period. Which I had discovered this item years before. It would have saved me from countless times of taking the basket on and off to get my 4 Runner to fit into the garage. Now all I don is flip the basket up and park. Great time saver! For that its worth the money.

I have a aluminum cargo basket for my truck. I didn't use it much because it wasn't the flip up model. I thought about going to a welding/blacksmith shop and have them make me a device that would work with an existing basket. The folding adapter is just what I needed for my Wrangler. With an extension on my OEM hitch, this product allows my carrier to be folded up when not in use. It’s heavy duty and the stabilizer eliminates noisy rattles. I highly recommend this combo.
I drive a Landcruiser and this was the perfect addition to the cargo basket I had. In the up position I can still open the tailgate glass and when the basket is laid flat, I can open the upper and lower tailgate and not hit anything on the basket. Putting surf rod holders on too so it’s the perfect set up for deer hunting ring and surf fishing.
