Do I need the adapter for childrens bikes?

Since all children's bikes are made differently, I cannot confirm for sure if you need an adapter bar for the Yakima FullSwing 4 Bike Rack # Y02465. However, if the child's bike is similar to the bike in the attached picture to this answer, I recommend the Malone Bike Adapter Bar for Women's, Children's, and Alternative Frame Bikes # MPG2165. The adapter bar will provide a straight, horizontal plane to attach to the FullSwing 4.
If you want an option that does not require a bike adapter bar, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Destination Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # HR4000. Since the padded frame holders move freely up and down on the center mast, they will fit virtually every type of bike frame.
If you need a hitch receiver recommendation for your vehicle, I would be happy to assist you if you provide me with the year/make/model.
