Can I simply take two wires from the jack and attach them to a deep cycle 12 volt battery?

The etrailer Electric Jack w/ Footplate # EJ-3520-WBX only has one power wire coming out of the jack. It gets its ground connection through the mounting plate which is grounded to the trailer.

You can run the power wire to the coach battery on your 2004 Jayco Jay Flight and attach it to the 12 volt positive terminal. If you do not have a terminal to attach the wire a Ring Terminal # DW05705-1 will give you a 3/8" inner diameter ring to attach to the battery post. The coach battery should already be grounded to the chassis and it will recharge when in tow and when connected at the camp site by the power convertor.

If you wish to run a separate battery you can use a ring terminal to connect to the chassis ground connection to the negative battery terminal with some 12 Gauge Wire # 12-1-1.

I recommend picking up a Replacement Fuse for etrailer or Ram Electric A-Frame Jack # EJ-FUSE and keeping it with the camper in case the fuse becomes damaged on a trip.
