Question:
I have a hitch that came on my GMC Terrain when I bought it from the dealer. How do I know what class the hitch is, or is it marked on the hitch somewhere? I want to pick up a cargo carrier but I need to know the class before I can make my choice. Thanks for any help you can give me. Oh yes, which carrier would be best for my vehicle?

The hitch should have a sticker somewhere on it that lists its capacities. With the capacity and the size of the receiver opening, you can figure out which class the receiver is. I have linked you to an FAQ article that fully explains how to determine the size/class of your hitch receiver.
For instance, if the receiver opening is 2 x 2 inches, it would be a Class III with a capacity of between 3500 lbs and 6000 towing and 300-600 lbs tongue weight. Tongue weight is the maximum amount of weight that can be safely hung from the receiver opening without damaging the hitch.
If the receiver opening is 1-1/4 x 1-1/4 inches, you most likely have a Class II which would have a towing capacity ranging from 2000-3500 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 200-350 lbs.
If you have the Class III hitch, I would recommend the Pro Series # 63153. This carrier features a 24 x 60 cargo deck and a capacity up to 500 lbs (if your hitch has sufficient capacity). If you have the Class II hitch, go with the Pro Series # 63155. Both carriers are compatible with the optional light kit, part # 20174 or the LED version, part # 98174LED.
We also offer weather-resistant cargo bags that you might be interested in. For the 61353, use the # 988501 bag or for the smaller 63155, use the # e98990.
I have also linked you to some product demonstration videos featuring some of the products I have recommended.
