Possible Solution to Help Prevent Trailer Jackknifing

Question:
My v-nose box trailer hits the vehicles Ive used to pull it - first a F450 flatbed, then an E450 RV - when I jackknife it in reverse. Now, I need to repair the front sheet metal for the second time and need to decide how to modify that to prevent future damage. BTW, I do know how to back up, :-. Its a commercial application and sometimes I get into situations that have no choice - many cul-de-sacs, for example. Itd be just fine for me to cut off the V, make it a flat nose, but theres the roof to deal with. Its not real heavy, a 7k trailer that never weighs more than 5.5k with cargo, but the nature of the RVs extended rear end already has it sitting low, even with an upside-down -hitch ball Im not sure that extending the receiver is a good idea. Im wondering if it might be possible to fabricate or purchase pre-engineered some type of extensions to the sides of the trailers tongue, so that those come into contract with my vehicle before the sheet metal and prevents that contact. Its only a matter of a few inches now. If/When I get into a fix and need those extra inches, Im hoping the trailers wheels will just be forced sideways sooner not rolling and still get me out. If its obvious that Im an idiot from this, please dont hesitate lest I know you know. Another option is to just sell this old trailer and buy a new one.

It's hard to totally visualize your issue but typically a long ball mount can help to give extra clearance like the # D-26. This ball mount has a length of 12-5/8 inches.
