I was able to do a little bit of research and it looks like the Karavan trailer you're referring to had a 7000-lbs surge actuator. To replace that I recommend using the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout - Disc - Zinc - 2" Ball - 7,000 lbs # DM62VR, which will bolt onto a 3" wide channel tongue and gives you a durable zinc-plating that's going to stand up to rust and corrosion really well. This actuator has an electric lockout to allow for backing up without engaging the brakes.

I've linked a short review video of this actuator for you to check out as well, but if you've got a different sized trailer tongue let me know and I can see what else might work.
