What Does Installation of Curt Trailer Hitch for 2021 Toyota Sienna Involve

Question:

Hi, Toyota tells me that their OEM hitch will physically block the hands-free function of the rear lift gate trunk on my 2021 sienna and therefore they disconnect that feature when installing. Will the etrailer hitch block the hands-free function? Also, Im wondering if I can get ahold of the install instructions before I buy. Trying to determine whats involved. The Toyota dealer also said theirs required disconnection of the hybrid battery, so Im curious about that and how much fascia trimming is required. Im just looking to get a 2inch receiver, so I can hook up my bike rack. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Installation is pretty straightforward regarding the Curt trailer hitch that fits your 2021 Toyota Sienna, which is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C22UR.

You only need to remove the underbody panel from the passenger side, remove the hole plugs where the weld nuts are on the frame, install the hitch with the provided hardware, and trim the fascia. I have added a cut out from the instructions which shows the amount you will need to trim, which is a 3" x 7-1/4" piece.

The hitch does not require any disconnection of a battery, per the the instructions, though it is possible it can block the hands-free function. We haven't had any feedback that it does, and generally what happens is you simply need to kick your foot to one side of the receiver instead of the middle to activate the lift gate.
