I spoke with some of the manufacturers that make flat towing parts and they said that since Ford does not allow flat towing on the 2020 or 2021 Ford Explorer, they will not be making base plate kits for them.

If your Explorer is front wheel drive you could use a towing dolly like the Roadmaster # RM-2050-1 tow dolly with electric brakes. This dolly features easy drive-on loading.

The dolly comes with an attached flat 4-pole connector installed and a loose wire for the brakes if needed or wanted. If your towing vehicle has a typical 7-pin connection, they you can use the Bargman # WG54006-043 coiled cable to combine the four wires and brake wires. If have a different connection just email me back with the details and I can find a better cable for you.

To make those connections I highly recommend the Deka # DW05745-10 heat shrink butt connectors. If you don't already have a good crimping tool you may want to get the Performance Tools # PTW30764 crimping plyers to make a strong crimp every time. I would still wrap the lose wires and connections with electric tape to keep them together.

You will additionally need a brake controller. If you provide your vehicle information I can specify that as well.
