Curt x5 Adapter Compatibility with Gooseneck Hitch in 2015 Ford F-250

Question:

I purchased the x5 adapter for my 2015 f250 I’m unsure of what gooseneck is in it but based on the ball that’s in it I decided to give this a try it’s a round pocket with a spray in bed liner and the adapter installed very easily but it seems to have some play in it slightly like it has a small rotation back and forth. Is this going to be an issue? It’s locked in place I can’t pull it out but it just has that slight play to it

The Curt X5 5th Wheel Base Rails Adapter for Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Trailer Hitches - 20,000 lbs # C16210 is only designed for the Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch that has the dual pins to latch the hitch ball in place. If you don't have the Double Lock model like # C60720 then that adapter isn't the correct fit and may have issues. Small rotation if not directly tested together could cause issues but some "play" in adapters is also to be expected so I can't confirm if the amount of movement you stated is an issue or not. Matching the adapter to the hitch is ideal.

If you have the Double Lock EZr model # C60683, it looks very similar but requires X5 adapter # C16220 instead for the correct fit.

The bed liner is not an issue, but you will want to double check the hitch by getting under your truck to determine the specific model of gooseneck hitch. If they don't match, it may actually be less expensive to replace the gooseneck than the adapter. If you want to go another route we have a couple 5th wheel hitches that are compatible with a gooseneck. You may be interested in either the Hi-Rise Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter by Bulldog, Draw-Tite and Reese # 9480 or the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter - Single Jaw - 21,000 lbs # DM8550045. These hitches either fit in the gooseneck pocket of attach to the gooseneck ball and allow you to adjust the tension for a good connection to the bed of the truck.
