There are 3 areas that you will need to trim on an under-body panel on the 2008 VW Passat to install Curt trailer hitch # 11091. These areas are under the vehicle, parallel with the ground and not on the back vertical part of the fascia. I have included a link to the installation instructions which include a diagram that shows the areas that need to be trimmed.
This hitch comes with the correct ball mount, pin, and clip. If you plan on doing some towing you can use 1-7/8 inch ball # 19256 or 2 inch ball # 19258. For trailer wiring use # 119250KIT. I have included a link to the installation instructions for the wiring as well.
A power wire connection to the battery is required for the wiring to work. The trailer will be drawing power from the vehicle battery. This protects the vehicles sensitive wiring and electronics. I attached an informational video for you.
