It is a non binding tow bar which means after the arms lock out when towing, when wanting to disconnect the tow bar from the vehicle you simply push the lever and the arms unlock. Each arm has a boot that covers the retracting bar which protects it from damage, dirt and debris.

Blue Ox Patriot Portable Braking System - Proportional Item # BLU37TR. A braking system is required in any vehicle being flat towed behind another vehicle. For instance if you have an LED light that has multiple functions and one wire running to that light for all the functions and one of those functions uses 6 volts and the other only uses three volts to operate you need a diode that is able to recognize that so the light function properly.
