Weight Distribution System for Audi Allroad
Updated 07/14/2020 | Published 07/10/2020 >
Question:
I will be towing a Casita travel trailer with a tongue weight of 450 pounds and a dry weight of 2400 pounds. The Audi OEM hitch receiver that I found has a max tongue weight of 330 pounds and a total tow weight of 3300 pounds. If I use a weight distribution hitch, can I distribute that tongue weight in a way that works within those limits? If so, which weight distribution hitch would you recommend? Thanks! weight distribution hitch question for Audi Allroad.

Your trailer hitch receiver may or may not be rated for weight distribution. If you let me know your model year I can help with specifics. If your trailer hitch receiver is rated for weight distribution, normally the tongue weight is increased and you'd need to fall within those parameters. There should be a part number or even a specific tongue weight listed on your trailer hitch for use with weight distribution. If you just find the part number plug it into a search and see if you can get that information.
If your hitch is not rated for use with weight distribution or is rated lower than the loaded trailer tongue weight plus cargo weight behind the axle of the tow vehicle, then you cannot tow that trailer with that vehicle. If your hitch is rated for weight distribution within your limitations, as long as the loaded weight is within the towing capacity of your vehicle (not hitch receiver) as outlined in the owner's manual then you will be all set. A weight distribution system helps with tongue weight but does not increase the towing capacity of your vehicle unless outlined as such by the manufacturer.
I've attached some articles to give more information to assist.
