Can 7" Hitch Extender Be Used for Towing to Clear Tailgate

I have a 3/4 ton Silverado 2007. Have hauled several thousand pound trailers. I have purchased a tear trailer with an empty weight of 1500 pounds. Close coupled hitch and I cannot let my tailgate down all the way. Could a 7inch extender help with this w/o hurting towing weight? Thanks.

The Hitch Extender For 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver 7" part # HE06 will reduce the weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50% or 3,500 lbs, whichever is lower. That said, it sounds like the tow vehicle will be well beyond the needs for the small trailer so you should be just fine.

It is safe to tow with a hitch extender like the Curt #C45796, but it is important to note that using any type of adapter, including an extender, reduces the weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent.
