Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator Not Working w/ OEM Brake Controller on 2020 Chevy Silverado
Updated 05/07/2020 | Published 05/06/2020 >
Question:
I have a 2020 Silverado 3500HD with integrated brake controller, and a new trailer with Dexter 1600 EOH brake actuator. The truck erroneously reports trailer brake problems and stops sending brake control. Ive read conflicting info about whether the Titan EHB adapter T4846000 would fix this problem. Can you advise me on this?

According to Hydrastar, the # HBA-CAM is designed to help electric over hydraulic brake actuators communicate correctly with OEM brake controllers, however they couldn't say if their adapter works with actuators from other manufacturers. As a contradiction, the folks from Dexter says it WILL work. Because we haven't tested it ourselves, I can't guarantee it'll work but it seems likely as Dexter doesn't seem to have a vested interest in the argument.
Deactivating your OEM brake controller and installing an aftermarket controller that's compatible with EOH brake systems is a sure bet. I'd recommend the Tekonsha P3, part # 90195. The P3 is a proven performer that is fully compatible with EOH braking systems. To install the controller, you'll need the # 3064-P wiring harness.
To install the harness, you'd plug one end into the socket under the dash near the emergency brake pedal as shown in the provided photo. Cut the dark blue wire in the harness and connect a length of wire long enough to run through the firewall, under the vehicle to the trailer connector at the rear bumper. Cut the blue wire exiting the connector and splice on the wire you ran from the front. I'll link you to a help article that explains how to do this.
