The Dexter DX Series actuator delivers up to 1,000 psi of hydraulic pressure for single-, tandem-, or triple-axle drum brake setups. Instead of waiting for the trailer to push against a hitch like a surge coupler, this unit responds instantly through your brake controller. That means smoother, more consistent braking and the ability to modulate power right from the cab. You can even use the manual override on your controller to engage the trailer brakes anytime—handy for steep grades or steady downhill runs.
Switching from surge brakes to electric over hydraulic doesn’t need to be complicated. The DX Series mounts directly to your trailer frame and connects to your existing hydraulic lines and wiring. A 12V DC power feed and the standard wire setup—black for power, blue for brake signal, yellow for breakaway, white for ground—make it straightforward to integrate with your existing 7-way circuit and compatible brake controller (sold separately). Once connected, you get precise control over timing and braking force without lockouts or extra valves when backing up.
Inside a vented aluminum housing, stainless steel fasteners and Goretite seals keep out moisture, dirt, and corrosion. The vent design helps release pressure, moisture, and heat so the internal electronics stay protected even when mounted in less-than-ideal spots. Enhanced wiring protection keeps voltage surges from damaging the circuit board, giving dependable function season after season.
A self-priming pump shortens brake bleeding time and keeps fluid from draining back into the reservoir when idle. The large integrated reservoir provides enough capacity for multi-axle drum brake systems so you don’t have to top off fluid as often. Combined with the solid-state electronics and proportional pressure valve, the system keeps braking smooth without constant adjustment.
For safety compliance, the DX Series pairs with most 9-amp-hour breakaway kits (sold separately). The yellow wire connection ensures that if the trailer ever separates from the tow vehicle, full braking pressure engages automatically. It’s a dependable safeguard built into a compact 11" long x 6" wide x 7" tall unit ready for serious towing duty.

Best thing I ever did I got breaks now
I would rate customer service at 5, products at 4 only because I haven't installed them yet and shipping at 1 because electric brake controller was boxed with jack and hitch both heavy items and box was ripped open from shipping which is not your fault but controller was pinched between jack and hitch.

We never got it to operate properly. We ended up removing the entire hydraulic system and replaced it with electric brakes.
This 1000 PSI actuator works great on my tadnem trailer. Also the OEM controller in the 2016 Ram 5500 works very smoothly on the braking of this unit. No Problems
