Compatibility of OEM Brake Controller On Chevy Silverado 2500 with Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes

Question:

I have a 4 year lease of a Chevy Silverado 2500 p/u and will be towing a trailer with Dexter electric over hydraulic brakes. The integrated brake controller in the truck doesnt recognize that a trailer is hooked up and therefore doesnt apply the trailer brakes when the truck brakes are applied or the actuator is engaged. Is there something that I can do to the trailer so that it is recognized by the truck? Id really rather NOT put an after-market controller on the truck.

According to Dexter, their electric over hydraulic actuators should be compatible with the OE brake controllers, but in practice we find that is not always the case. We have found that the GM OE brake controller is not compatible with other electric over hydraulic actuators, so the fact that it is not working with your Silverado is not a huge surprise.

Dexter makes an Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Compatibility Kit, part # DX35FR that will allow your OEM controller to work with your Dexter EOH actuator.
