The Pop and Lock Custom Tailgate Handle with Lock - Codes to Ignition Key - Manual - Magnetic Grey # PAL5409 will have the same basic construction as the part # PAL5400 as the only real difference is that one keys to the ignition while the other uses a unique key that doesn't key to the ignition. When I read the reviews we have on part 5400 I found people saying that they felt the construction was weaker than the OEM handle, but I wasn't able to find any saying the the lock actually broke; just that they assume it will eventually break.

The glossy black version of the 5409 that you asked about is part # PAL5410. It is the exact same thing that codes to the ignition key on your 2009 Toyota Tacoma but it has the gloss black finish instead of the magnetic grey finish. One of the reviews for the 5410 does talk about the plastic piece breaking after 3 or 4 years of service, but since this has the same construction as the 5409 and that piece breaking doesn't seem to be a common thing, I believe you'll be just fine. This does come with a 1-year warranty if that helps put your mind at ease.
