Question:

C56040 wiring harness . Information says fits 2014 Subaru crosstrek XV except for hybrid in which case need to get C56243 which it T connector that attaches directly bit left and right tail light wires and also needs to connect to the battery. My 2014 hybrid has the factory installed trailer connector so confused as to why this model won’t work and why I’d need to buy a harness that doesn’t connect to the connector but has to connect to both lights and the battery.

I spoke with Curt and verified that the correct trailer wiring harness for a 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid is the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56243. They said the reason is the other harness is multi-fit for a number of vehicles and this harness is specifically made for the XV Crosstrek & Crosstrek. So according to Curt the issue is simply compatibility as they are essentially different vehicles despite having the Crosstrek title.

If you are looking for a hitch for your 2014 XV Crosstrek Hybrid I do recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76084. I've added links to video reviews and an install for you to check out as well.
