Although Jeep corrected the problem beginning with the 2019 model, the 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk will indeed need the Mopar 68321424AB flat tow wiring kit to activate the electronic power steering system while the vehicle is in tow mode. You'll need to obtain the part from your Jeep dealer.
To flat tow your Jeep, you'll need a tow bar, base plates, safety cables, a wiring harness to join the Cherokee to the tow vehicle and a supplemental braking system. In some cases, a high/low adapter is needed as well.
For a tow bar, use the Roadmaster All Terrain, part # RM-522. The tow bar self aligns for easy hookup to your motorhome.
For safety cables, go with # RM-643.
For Base Plates, I recommend the # RM-521446-5.
For a wiring harness, use # RM-15267.
The Roadmaster # RM-8700 Braking System is a great option. Once installation is complete, it requires almost zero set-up before each trip. A # RM-751471 stop light switch is also needed.
If the height difference between the base plates and receiver on the motorhome is greater than 3 inches, you'll need a high/low adapter to bring the receiver height within 3 inches of the base plate height. I'll link you to our selection of adapters.
