I have a solution for you, but the EcoHitch # 306-X7376 is not designed to fit on the 2016 VW Golf GTI with the MK7 package. Instead, you'll want to use the EcoHitch # 306-X7309 which is a confirmed fit on your 2016 VW Golf GTI MK7 and will provide you with a hitch receiver with a hidden crosstube for greater ground clearance, as well as a great factory installed look. This hitch comes with a 2" receiver that will provide you with a much better choice of hitch mounted accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers.
