I can definitely help you out with equipment that allows you to tow with your 2012 Chevy Traverse but it is my understanding that the V92 Trailer Towing Package (as it is called on page 9-48 of your owner's manual) cannot be added to a vehicle without the tow package. You'd need to get clarification on this from a dealer.
According to my research the V92 Tow Package not only comes with a trailer hitch, wiring, and provisions for a brake controller, but there are also some other things like a heavy duty transmission cooler that contribute to the higher trailer weight rating. While we do have these products, we don't have the ability to say that your towing capacity will safely increase from 2,000 lbs to 5,200 lbs.
For a trailer hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75528 because of higher weight ratings and the mounting tab for a wiring bracket. I recommend the T-One # 118450 wiring because of how reliable it is, and then if you want to upgrade to a brake controller I recommend the Curt Echo # C51180 with the Wiring Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L because this controller is operated by an Apple or Android smart device and is very easy to use and install.
To complete a towing setup you also need a ball mount kit. I recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900 because it includes two ball mounts, one with a 3/4” rise/2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise/4” drop, a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball, and a pin and clip. You will want to refer to the attached ball mount article to ensure that this kit is correct for your towing application.
I have attached a few installation videos for you to check out. If you'd like to add an aftermarket transmission cooler to your Traverse I have attached a link to our selection for you to filter through as well as some helpful articles with info on coolers.
