Question:
I pulled up carpet panels for spare, as well as left and right flooring panels adjacent to the spare, and side access panels near hatch, as well as left tail light assembly to locate wiring harness and trailer connector. Cant find it. wiring for the tail light appears to go in up high. No obvious wiring access My hitch installed without a hitch, but the wiring is a mystery. Any hints on locating the harness and trailer wiring connector? Thanks!

The connection point for trailer wiring on a 2005 Subaru Outback Wagon is usually located behind the paneling on the passenger side, directly below the tail light. I have included a video and the installation details for a similar harness that also fits your vehicle (# 118461).
It can also be located on the drivers side, behind the side panel a few feet toward the front of the vehicle. The connector itself is sometimes located behind the wiring harness, so it is difficult to see. You can run your hand along the harness feeding the tail light assemblies, and you could be able to find it that way.
