Disc Brake Kit Recommendation for 2016 Load Rite Tandem Axle Trailer with GVWR of 6k

Updated 06/11/2019 | Published 06/10/2019

Question:

HI I HAVE A 2016 LOAD RITE DOUBLE AXLE TRAILER RATED FOR 6000 LBS WITH 1 SET OF DISK BRAKES. SIZE OF BEARINGS ARE 1.06 X 1.38 / 1.684S TAPERED SPINDLE-2. CAN THESE HUBS BE CONVERTED TO OIL BATH HUBS? I THINK THE MAINTANENCE IS EASIER THAN REPACKING GREASE IN BEARINGS. THANKS,

Expert Reply:

Your Load Rite trailer has spindle dimensions that match 3,500 lb axles which use the BT8 spindle so for a disc brake kit that will fit and work well we have the Kodiak Disc Brake kit part # K2HR35D which is Dacromet coated to fight corrosion. This is a grease setup which I feel is superior to oil.

The big advantage to grease of oil is that in the event of a seal failure oil hubs end up destroying the hub and typically the spindle by the time you notice as it happens so quickly. If a grease seal fails you find out and have time to get home and fix it as the grease doesn't immediately drain like oil does leaving the hub without lubrication.

That said you can covert this kit to oil bat with the kit you referenced of # XLPROLUBE1980KIT that you referenced.
