Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 2019 Ford F-150 Towing to Prevent Sway from Wind

Updated 05/29/2019 | Published 05/28/2019

Question:

I installed Air Bags on my 2019 F150 which easily levels the truck and camper trailer. Being my trailer is light and a huge sail in the wind Im concerned about it swaying. What would be my best option in addition to the air bags. Thanks.

A weight distribution system is the best way to fight trailer sway that is caused by winds and passing semi trucks like the Equal-i-zer kit part # EQ37100ET that you referenced.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

The Equal-i-zer kit you referenced has a tongue weight range of 600-1,000 which would work well if your loaded tongue weight falls near the center of. You'll also need a thin-walled socket to install the included hitch ball as well like part # ALL643216. Most people refer to the Equal-i-zer kits as being the best made kits available so if this kit fits your tongue weight range it will work really well. If you have a different tongue weight let me know and I'll see what's best option.
