Class III Hitch For 2008 Ford Edge To Tow A Trailer With Weight Distribution
Updated 05/01/2019 | Published 04/29/2019 >
Question:
Hi, We currently have a 2008 ford Edge with the tow package. The vehicle came with a class 2 hitch. We recently bought a lightweight trailer 2800 lbs loaded that came with a weight distribution system requiring a 2inch receiver. I was wondering what you would recommend for either adapting to the current class 2 hitch or upgrading to a class 3? Cheers,

Expert Reply:
I recommend to switch the existing hitch to the Draw-Tite instead of using an adapter because adapters cannot be used with weight distribution and they cut the tongue weight rating of the hitch in half.
The only Class III hitch available for the 2008 Ford Edge that is designed for the use of a weight distribution system is Draw-Tite hitch part # 75992. The Draw-Tite hitch allows for up to 400 lbs tongue weight but the Ford Edge can still only tow up to 350 lbs of tongue weight according to the owner's manual. The 2800 lb trailer should not exceed the tongue weight of the Ford. I have attached an installation video for your reference.
