Recommended Radial Tires for Boat Trailer in Southern California Desert
Updated 04/25/2019 | Published 04/24/2019 >
Question:
Hi I live in the desert of southern CA. I have a 20 foot pontoon with a 115 outboard motor. I am guessing that boat and trailer are around 3200 lbs with fuel gear etc... The trailer is a single axel. My question is when pulling in the summer 110 degrees outside is a bias tire going to be ok? Or do I need to find a radial tire. My other concern is that tires maybe to wide, to fit under fender well. A brief history when I bought the boat it had a 205/75/14 load d I think that pulled horrible trailer was all over the place. The roads here are not in good shape. So I replaced them with a 175/80/13 tire load e. Trailer pulled better but tires are junk less than 500 miles 1 came apart and other 1 has a bubble. Radial tires will do better with high ambient temps and heat from road friction which all tires have. I recommend replacing your tires with the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10210. These tires will be 7 inches wide and 24.1 inches. You will want to inflate your tires to their max psi prior to your trip to give you the best performance. These tires have a maximum speed of 81 mph.
