I have a 2018 Tiguan 4 Motion with seven seats. I noticed that VW sells two hitches one for the five seater and one for the seven seater with the same towing capacity of 1500 pounds. I read something that due to the extra weight of two more possible passengers in the seven seater that the gross weight may be an issue with a hitch. Questions: 1. Will the Curt C12177 fit my Tiguan? 2. I am only using the hitch for bike racks and do not expect to ever have seven passengers the 3rd row was sold to me at no cost while using the hitch. Will there be a problem using the C12177 under these circumstances? 3. Why would VW sell two different hitches for the five and seven seater?

Yes, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C12177 will fit your 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan regardless of the amount of seats you have but I recommend using the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13381 instead as it will allow you to tow more if you ever decide to do so and carry a greater variety of hitch mounted accessories like a bike rack. The number of passengers you have only pertains to towing, not carrying a bike rack.
I can't say for sure as to why VW sells two different hitches for your vehicle but there may be a 1-1/4" and 2" version. The other reason if they are the same size is class rating which one could be rated for more than the other. I have attached an install video of both options on a similar Tiguan for you as well.
