Determining Correct Shackle Strap Size for Top Brand Tandem Axle Trailer

01 top brand tandem 7000 gvw . shackles are 3 1/8 and springs hit frame over bumps. I think shackles were replaced and seem too long . Can you tell me what they should be

Trailer manufacturers don't usually keep a record of parts like these that they install at the factory, so I cannot be sure as to the exact length of the shackle strap that would have come originally on your trailer. With this in mind, a 3-1/8 inch long shackle like what you have is typically used on single-axle systems and would be a bit strange on a tandem axle trailer.

The most common size for the type of trailer you have is a 2-5/8 inch shackle strap like # 115052. You will simply want to go with the shackle size that allows the spring to sit as level as possible. You can take a couple measurements on your trailer to see if the 2-5/8 inch long shackle will work well.

I have also attached a link that will take you directly to our available selection of shackle straps, along with an article on trailer suspension that you might find helpful.
