Question:
Hello, I just recently purchased a new camper and it has an electric brake system. I have a 2012 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab SV V6 with a factory installed hitch with a round 7-pin harness for wiring hookup. I assume that I need a brake controller before the brakes would work on the camper correct? I am interested in the Curt Venture Trailer brake controller. In my vehicle manual it says that I need a Nissan jumper harness before installing a brake controller. Does the brake controller kit come with that or is it sold separately? If it is sold separately does it have to be a specific Nissan brand part or is there an aftermarket part too? Thanks!

You are correct in that you will need to use a brake controller in order to operate the brakes on a trailer. The Curt Venturer Trailer Brake Controller part # C74VV is a fit for your 2012 Nissan Frontier and will not require any splicing so long as you also use the Curt Custom Wiring Adapter part # C51382. The relays and jumper harness that you are referring to are not included with the brake controller and will need to be purchased separately.
If your Frontier came with a factory 7-way then the relays and jumper harness are already in place and you will not need to purchase anything else. If your Frontier did not come with a factory 7-way and it was added aftermarket without the relays and jumper harness then you would want to use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56226. This kit comes with everything you need to obtain a fully functioning 7-way. The jumper harness and relays are not sold separately from this kit.
You do not have to use OEM relays or jumper harnesses as these aftermarket parts are designed specially for your vehicle and will be much more cost effective. I have attached an install video you can use as a reference.
