Question:
How much or what type of power tongue jack for a travel trailer weighing 6000lbs
asked by: Nikki
Expert Reply:
Tongue weight is usually 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. On a 6,000 pound trailer that would be 600 to 900 pounds. The higher the jack capacity the easier it will be for the jack to lift and lower the trailer and the longer the jack will last.
Lippert Electric Trailer Jack # LC285318 is rated for 3,500 pounds so it is more than strong enough for your trailer. I have included a link to a video review of this jack for you.
I personally like the Stromberg Carlson # SC63VR jack. This one is rated for 4,500 pounds and also cannot be over extended which is something that damages traditional jacks. I have linked a video review of this jack as well.
