The 4-pole wiring harness kit you referenced, Curt # C55510, is not a fit for your 2001 Ford Ranger but we do have similar wiring kits that will work fine for you.
You can see all wiring harness products for your Ranger on the page I linked for you. If the truck does not have the tow package you can add a 4-pole harness # 118344 which simply plugs in at your tail lights.
If the truck does have the tow package then for a replacement 4-pole you can use # C55384 or for a 4-pole/7-way combination part # 74682.
