Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2017 Toyota Corolla

Updated 04/24/2018 | Published 04/23/2018

Question:

I wish to install a trailer hitch to a 2017 Toyota Corolla. ETrailer recommends two models: 1 Curt C11265 and 2 Draw-Tite 24913. The Installation Details PDF have different torque values Curt requires 86 ft-lbs and Draw-Tite requires 68 ft-lbs for the four M12 mounting bolts. Are these two values correct? Are the digits inadvertently transposed in one of the instructions? Reasons for the difference if both are indeed correct? Thank you for any insight and advise. Best regards.

The values for the torque specs on the Curt # C11265 and Draw-Tite # 24913 trailer hitches that fit your 2017 Toyota Corolla are correct. The manufacturers of hitch make the directions according to how their hitches fit and are precise in their torque settings; the difference is likely due to the fact that the Draw-Tite uses M12 X 1.25 X 35 CL8.8 hex bolts, which are slightly different than the M12-1.25 X 30mm bolt of the Curt.

I do recommend the Draw-Tite # 24913 due to the fact that it does not require the use of stabilizing straps # 18050 when using an accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier to maintain the warranty, which is something the Curt hitch does require.

I've added a link to video installs of both hitches on a 2017 Corolla for you to check out as well.
