Will a Ball Mount with More Rise Reduce a Vehicle's Sag

Question:

Hi, I drive a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited and I am concerned about suspension sag. Here is what I got: The top of the receiver opening measures 14.25inch from the level ground. The bottom of the coupler measures 17.5inch from level ground. My math says I need a 3.25inch rise, but once the trailer is mounted to the ball the tow vehicle s 1.5inch or so. My question is - Do I need to account for the tow vehicle sag and go with a almost 5inch rise? Thank you

Switching your ball mount to one with a 5 inch rise, like the Curt # C45336, will help level your trailer but it won't take the sag out of your 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. The trailer's tongue weight will still be pushing the rear of the vehicle down.

To actually eliminate the sag you may be able to load the trailer with less tongue weight however that could cause additional sway if the trailer's tongue weight is then too low. The best solution is to add a weight distribution system.

If you decide to use weight distribution you need to choose a system that is rated properly for your trailer's tongue weight. Find the loaded tongue weight of your trailer and add that to any weight you have stored in the back of the Santa Fe behind its rear axle. You want this number to fall within the range that the system you choose is rated for. For instance, the Equal-i-zer weight distribution system, part # EQ37060ET, is rated for a total tongue weight between 200 and 600 pounds.
