Question:

Hello, I have a 2015 Lexus RX 350, I would like to install a hitch receiver. I’ve picked out the Curt C13143 receiver. The part I’m having a hard time figuring out is the wiring harness. My vehicle has a connector where the T-connector wiring harness connects located on the driver backside bumper. I’ve read that if I don’t have the towing package that connector wouldn’t have a current, but I’m not sure if I don’t or don’t. I’ve used the VIN decoder and can’t find anything that shows it having the towing package. If my assumptions are correct, would I need to get the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector - 118255 or would I have to go to the extreme and get ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit - 119250KIT? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13143 is an excellent option for your 2015 Lexus RX 350 and will work well for you. It has a Class III rating with a 2" receiver tube opening. It also comes with a limited lifetime warranty. I have attached an install video of this hitch as well. I recommend using a hitch cover like part # C22272 to protect the inside of the receiver tube from rusting while not in use.

For a trailer wiring harness, I recommend using the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118252 if you have the factory tow package or part # 118255 if you do have the factory tow package. In most cases, the additional pigtail will not be present in the rear hatch/bumper if you do not have the factory tow package. However, this is not the case for your Lexus as it will be present irregardless but will not have power like you mentioned if the vehicle doesn't have the factory tow package. You would need to contact a Lexus dealer and provide them with you VIN in order to find out if your particular vehicle has the factory towing package.
