Thule Arcos Tilt Platform for 2" Receivers

Hi everyone, I'm Evangeline right here at etrailer and today we have Ian from Thule. Welcome to etrailer. They're here with a whole team to help train us, show off some really cool new products that are coming out. We've got some cool sneak peeks that you may or may not see here on our website just yet, but stay tuned for. One of the things we got to see was something that we've seen before, but there's a new twist, so what do we have installed on my car today, Ian So we have our Thule Arcos Cargo Box. It's a hitch-mounted cargo box with 14 cubic feet of capacity.

But what's new about it is it's mount it on our new tilting base, so a little bit hard to see underneath here, but there's a tilt release handle now that allows us more access to the back of the vehicle, so you can simply squeeze that, tilt it down, and then easily get into the back of your vehicle to get out anything you need. (door clunking) Plenty of space back here, so more vehicle fits. (cargo carrier clicking) Awesome. As we all just saw, I don't have much cargo capacity in the back of my car, so I'm actually going on a road trip this weekend and when my friends show up, they start throwing their suitcases and duffel bags in. I'm like, "There's no more space.

Nothing." This, super helpful for that situation. So how much could we put in here You can fit about 110 pounds of cargo inside the box here so it's a great solution, putting the cargo, big bulky items like suitcases, golf clubs, a child stroller behind the car, especially if your roof is already occupied. Say you're gonna put a kayak up there or a rooftop tent. This is a great solution. Takes advantage of your hitch on the back of the car.

I noticed it's very sleek-looking, so you've got a very low profile here. I think I can actually clear without even having to tilt it away. Yes. But if I had this on let's say a larger vehicle or a larger hatch, not always the case. Depends on where your hitch is located on the vehicle.

Some vehicles have more clearance, some have less. So for your car you can even use the non-tilting option and save a little bit of money there, but for somebody that wants, or who prioritizes access to the back of the vehicle, the tilting hitch is a really great option for them. I did take the liberty of loading some stuff inside the box, so to open it up it is lockable. Correct. And we have it in the unlock position right now. I can see that the key's inside. Press that latch, lifts up. So the Thule Arcos uses our slide lock system that's shared across a lot of our roof-mounted cargo boxes like Thule Motion 3 and Thule Force 3. Very similar to a lot of the Thule roof boxes I've worked with. Now I have my backpack, my duffle bag, my climbing harness, a bike helmet in here. I have plenty more room. Like a roof box, you also have like tie down points and things like that Correct. Yep, so there's tie down points riveted into the base of the box. They're riveted into a support structure on the bottom so you can keep your cargo nice and secure and we always recommend using those tie down straps when you're traveling down the road for safety. Oh, completely. You slam on the brakes real quick 'cause a rabbit runs through the road, you don't want your cargo shifting around inside- Absolutely. All over as well. All right, well that's cool to see. Now, I see down here we have some lights. I don't have wiring on my car, but does the Arcos platform come with wiring and lights Yep, this product comes out of the box already wired for brake lights and turn indicators and connects to the vehicle with a flat four pin connector. So removable box, right Correct. Why would I need to remove it Again, if you wanted to install your hitch receiver, put on your hitch-mounted bike rack or any other hitch-mounted cargo, you may not want this box in the way, so it's easily removable with two people. Awesome. So what we did is we got inside it and we removed the two bolts that are in there with the Allen key included, and now I guess you just grab that end, I grab this, and we push it and lift up. Okay, so just like that. Here, let's go put it down on the ground beside it. I can see how much more like compact this whole base is, so sometimes when I'm out on trips, and let's say the parking situation is a little rough, but I don't wanna leave the box on the back, I could just leave the platform on the vehicle just like this Yep, absolutely. Great. Ready for your next trip. That's great. This how people might store it too. Absolutely, just simply remove it from the hitch and then you can store it in your garage like this with the box next to it. That sounds really good, so should we try putting it back on Absolutely. So bring this down, grab the box. Up. Line up. There we go. Is that it Ian We'll open up the box and bolt it. And bolt those two bolts out back down. That was a really quick and easy process. Getting this, when we get the Thule Arcos, it comes with a platform, it comes with a box, it's all ready to go in your 2" hitch receiver. If you have the Thule Verse, would it be the two-bike and two-bike add-on and you can add accessories and you just need a separate adapter to carry the box Correct, yep, so if you have the Thule Verse two-bike with a 2" hitch receiver or inch and a quarter, there's two separate products. Gotcha. This will work with that and just these adapter bolts right onto the base and then you can mount this cargo box. We do sell the box separately so the end consumer can choose whether they want to buy the tilting base, the non-tilting base, or an adapter to work with their existing Thule verse bike rack.
