An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the truck's weight, as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a custom-fit bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the truck level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the truck. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the Competition

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

2017 Ram 1500

Purchased to help my suspension when pulling around my 2 horse BP trailer. Tested them out the day I installed them with a 16' dump trailer (which is too much trailer for my 1/2 ton). Took a 20 mile ride on the highway and some in rough shape back county roads (to test the ride and to make sure I seated the Timbren in securely). I am super impressed. They preformed as advertised and my truck sits level. The ride is much better with the load and I love how it doesn't affect my ride when not loaded. I change my own oil and headlights but that is about as far as my mechanic skills go. They were super easy to install. It took me more time to take the tire on and off than to remove and install these. I watched an installation video, used two small blocks of wood to seat them, probably 30 minutes of my time. Would definitely recommend this product.

It did exactly what I needed to do. I had really bad chassis roll and soft suspension in the rear of my truck. This eliminated the issue and gave me a stronger ride in the rear.

2019 Dodge Ram Pickup

Unbelievably easy installation in a 2019 Ram 1500 4x4. No bolting required. Just pry the old bump stop out and twist this unit in. Done in 10 minutes. Takes longer to Jack up the truck than to install the product. I've used Timbren SES units in all of my trucks for the last 10 years. They work great, improve handling with a load and save your rear springs. If you have a light duty pickup, you need these. The install isn't as easy on some other vehicles, but it's never taken me longer than an hour to put them in.

Comments
They work like new and keep the truck level when under a load or towing. Genius product.

I installed the TDR 1500DQ on my 2020 rambox crewcab 2x4. Took me 20 minutes +/-. I carry all the time, air comp, floor jack, trailer spring bars, tools & assorted travel trailer stuff. The Timbren rubbers still have 1.5" clearance. The ride in great. it's better than air bags & a lot less work.

I have attached the Timbren product to my 2012 Dodge Ram and am very impressed with the product. etrailer answered my question that I needed to know if the Timbren product would take the squat out of my truck when I hook up my 5th wheel rv. The proof is in the attached pictures I took to share with you and potential customers. Your customer service & product knowledge is outstanding and that is why I am a faithful customer. As far as the installation of the product, I could not find an easier thing to do....It's harder to change a light bulb! Of course your installation video was very informative which made things a lot easier.

Helped make my decision a no brainer....thanks for the pics they sealed the deal.

Fantastic....The truck drives like a dream! If and when I hit any potholes or bumps, of course you still feel them, but the control is there with no fish tailing. As far as pulling my 5th wheel, it feels like everything is one unit and floats right along!

thanks Ron. Great information and you helped me with my decision.

Comments
Very good illustration and explanation. I have a 5th wheel and am experiencing the squat problem. Question: Is the installation strictly a friction fit or do I have to install a bolt with nut?
-- comment by: John T - 05/09/2015

Comments
For John T. They are a friction fit, installed mine in less than 15 min. Slight harder ride when unloaded, but they work perfectly for carrying the load of the trailer. Highly recommend.

2013 Dodge Ram Pickup

These "enhanced" bump-stops have definitely improved the ride quality of my 2013 Ram 1500 quad cab when pulling our 7500 lb. 29 foot travel trailer. The trailer probably has 500+ pounds of food, clothes, kids toys, etc inside as well. The truck bed probably has another 800'ish pounds of equipment in it that compresses the suspension before I even hook the trailer up. With the stock stops the rear suspension hardly moved. After adding the new stops, the rear suspension had travel again and the steering felt less twitchy. Unloaded truck will hit the new stops only if I hit a pretty harsh bump but it's only noticeable if you're paying attention to it. With a loaded bed (no trailer) hitting the stops is more noticeable but you still need to hit a decent bump for them to touch. They are very easy to install. Take the time to read the instructions and watch the installation video before you pay someone $50-$75 for a 15-20 minute job. I would buy them again.

I installed the TDR1500dq on my Ram crew 1500 Rambox, took mo 30min+/-. I used a 2x4 to seat the bumpers. To make sure there seated in the cups put a 2x4 on the street & drive over it. These are expensive but there a whole lot easier to install than air bags.

Put them on my 2019 Ram 1500 and then towed a 68 El Camino from DC to Dallas and back. They definitely reduce the amount of squat the truck would of experienced and the ride quality did not suffer a bit. They do act like a bump stop when they are not under a load, so every once in a while when I hit a harsh bump it does make it a bit more jarring, but this would not stop me from buying them again.

I put these on my 14' Ram 1500 that has Mopar 2.5'' lift system. It took me longer to crawl under the truck than it did to pull off stock bump stops and install the rubber shocks. A little bit of soapy water and they slid right on. No need to jack up truck or use of any tools. Pulled 16' bumper pull stock trailer loaded down the same day and was very pleased with the elimination of bounce from the rear. Rams have coils in the rear that make the truck drive like a dream empty, but bouncy as heck pulling a trailer. I recommend this product to anyone with a Ram. Boots sit about 1.5'' above axel so still get same smooth ride when empty and support when you put on a load.

I installed the timbren SES to improve two issues for towing my travel trailer. 1. The amount the rear of the truck squats after hitching up the trailer and, 2. The bouncing the truck experienced while towing the TT. The timbren SES satisfactorily resolved both issues. I use a weight distribution hitch and the timbren decreased the truck squat about an inch at the rear tire. The trailer towed much better and did not experience the previous bouncing. Also, the truck rode normally without the TT hitched. So far I'm happy with the purchase.

Bought these a year ago to reduce the sag and level out my 2017 Ram 1500 when I tow my 28 foot travel trailer. They are a fantastic upgrade to my suspension system. Truck rides level when towing and the the little bit of sway on windy days is not noticeable anymore. They don’t affect the everyday ride when not towing I would definitely recommend and buy them again.

I’m posting review of how the installation went. The installation is so easy, all you need is a jack and 2 short 2x4 boards(for compressing the Timbrens evenly into the socket). I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 4.7l. Pictures below shows my original where rotted and crumbled as soon as I touched them. My truck without from the ground to top of rear fender sits at 38 inches, after my trailer load out on it goes down to just a tad below 37 inches. Major difference, before it would go beyond 35 inches or below. Pictures #1 show the original yellow rotted ones Picture #2 is the tinbren installed.

Purchased these after researching and reading reviews about how these helped others with the same problem I had. They came quickly and were very easy to install. Took less than 30 minutes. The rear end of our 2013 Dodge would sink when we hooked up our Ultra Light trailer. It has a 2" lift on the front. After installing the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System things seemed to level out and we will see how much better it rides this weekend! Customer service was great. Contact about shipping and receiving was swift and easy. Thanks. Pictures attached show the spacing on the rear tire/wheel well before and after. Sturdy strong product. Thank you.

2011 Dodge Ram Pickup

A heavy workload on a Ram 1500 will cause the truck to squat with just 1 inch of clearance in the wheel-well. The stock suspension is soft and it feels precarious when under load. I would not say that Ram dropped the ball on their suspension since many of their 1500 customers do not load the truck down to use it to its rated capacity and the soft ride appeals to a large segment of drivers who cannot find it in other trucks. However, it seems that the Timbren bump stops are what should be on the truck if you are not getting a 2500 or 3500 but need to tow and haul. The Timbren rear enhancement system immediately improves the handling on the Ram 1500 and stands up even when placing it under load. It is almost like buying a whole new truck. I cannot compliment this product enough and I am extremely pleased with how the truck handles both loaded and unloaded. It is not too stiff and it does not feel bumpy like other enhancements might. But it feels sturdy and the truck feels stronger almost right away. I could have gone with a different distributor for these parts but etrailer.com is more than just a distributor. You can find official etrailer.com videos on most of their products which will give you honest information on their products and explain how to install and use those products. If you have a question, you will get a reply from them with an expert on the subject. They are interested in finding you solutions first and the sales are just a byproduct from their expertise. I did not find these parts cheaper anywhere else, but I still would have gone with etrailer.com even if they cost a little more. I chose etrailer.com because I know I can trust them to get me the good stuff.

2016 Dodge Ram Pickup

To say I'm very happy with this product is an understatement. First off, shipping was fast and the communication from George was top notch. Secondly, installation was as easy as it gets. Find a safe, flat area to jack your truck up by the frame (this creates space between the factory bump stops and the axle) then remove the factory bump stops. You may need a flat head screw driver for this to pry the old bumps stops out (easy)... insert the new Timbren Suspension System...a 6 inch long 2x4 would be helpful here....safely place the 2x4 atop the axle directly under the Timbren system, then slowly lower the vehicle. The weight of the vehicle will force the Timbren system up into the receiving end and this should complete the install. It took me longer to dig out my floor jack, cut a small piece of 2x4, then installing the Timbren system. Lastly, I immediately hooked up my camper a 24' (27' all in) Forest River and instantly saw my 2016 RAM leveled out. I have a 3 hr trip planned in the coming weeks and will offer some feedback on the ride with this new Timbren system in place. Pretty impressed thus far

I have installed the Timbren SES on my 2012 Ram 1500. Total time including removal of OEM bumpers was 45 minutes. I added a preliminary step to the installation procedures. I cleaned the receptacle where the OEM bumper was located to remove the dirt and residue. That made the new parts slide into position easily. I used a small wood block as suggested to ensure complete seating of the new bumpers. They fit perfectly. I have approximately 1.25" of clearance between the bumpers and the rest. Can't wait to get my trailer hooked up to see how they perform. Excellent service as always from etrailer!

My favorite part of this product was the easy install,it took me like 10 minutes and it was ready to go. So far I’ve towed 3500lbs on my trailer with a 2000lb double axel trailer and my truck was staying level. Loving it so far!

Timbren Pads are easy to install but could use a stop line to verify seating, kinda of a guess. Ram 2013 pads don't bolt on they are press fit to frame. The old pads came out very easy and were dried out from weather? No physical changes in height to PU after installation. Clearance went from 3 (original), to 1 1/2. Pulling a 33 ft trailer and wind rocking PU, also have Sumo spring to install later. I pulled bump pad off without jacking up then jacked frame up, installed pads then set PU down several times with 2 x 4 spacer to set pad. Can't wait to try on road with trailer. Etrailer shipped very quickly, ordered Tuesday afternoon delivered Saturday. Shipped no rush by me.

2018 Ram 1500

Installed quickly and easily, which is a plus. The ride quality actually got worse....much worse. Not sure if it was due to how my truck was loaded, the weight of the trailer, or what, but these timbren's seemed to be too stiff adding a jarring to the ride quality. If I had the factory bump stops with me, I would have removed them on the side of the road. Unfortunate, as I had great hopes for them.

So far all I can review is the install and super easy I put a floor jack under one side of the frame jacked it up took hardly any effort to pull the original stops out put a little soap and water on it screwed it up in there put a 2 x 4 beneath it drop the suspension down onto the two by four jumped up and down on the rear bumper to make sure it was seated nice and easy to do both sides took me about five minutes of actual work no problem I can't wait to try it out towing these are much higher quality and much larger than the original bump stops I can't believe the factory actually put those in it must be for grocery getters. we plan on using these for planar travel trailer to avoid the bucking bronco effect we have a 2019 Ram 1500 lariat 4 x 4 crew cab with a six-foot-four box

Dodge Ram Pickup

Easy to install but I used a friends lift so I could get under the truck easily. The ride is a bit rougher when hitting larger bumps but doesn’t effect it most of the time. It handled a 20 foot equipment trailer good but when fully loaded, 8000 lb., I didn’t feel confident without a weight distribution hitch. A smaller trailer would be no problem. It took care of the sagging problem the Ram 1500 has under load.

2019 Ram Rebel 4 x 4 Quad Cab Ordering was easy and shipment was fast. Although it was a little concerning when I first saw the box. It appeared that baggage handlers at the airport had their hands on it, however the contents were fine. Installation was fast, I used a floor jack and 4x4 under the trailer hitch to lift the truck 3 to 4 inches. It was scary how easy the original bump stops came out. One twist and they were removed. Installation was uneventful (per instructions) there is a decent amount of space under the Rebel which certainly helped. On flat roads I haven't notice any change in ride quality but it is certainly stiffer when going over bumps. I purchased these for aiding in the towing a travel trailer but have not yet used in that capacity. 4 Stars for now and if they work as designed with towing the trailer would give 5 Stars.

  • Timbren Suspension Enhancement System for 2007 Ram 1500 To Reduce Rear Sag
Timbren jounce springs are a great option for your 2007 Ram 1500 with a little rear sag when towing. They are designed to give additional support by becoming more rigid as more weight is added. This means the empty ride of the vehicle shouldn't be impacted but the ride under load will reduce sag, increase stability and reduce body roll. If you have a mega cab model you will want # TDR2500CA designed specifically for that model. If you have any other model, then you instead will...

  • How Do Timbrens Affect the Unloaded Ride On a 2016 Ram 1500
In regards to ride quality, this would be unaffected while unloaded unless going over bumps or large dips in the road. The correct Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for a 2016 Ram 1500 is part # TDR1500DQ. That said, when this happens I do have to agree that the ride can be rather bouncy. However, I have the perfect solution for you in the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-307-47. The SumoSprings are not as firm as the Tumbrens so they will not be as rough when...

  • Recommended Bump Stop Replacement Suspension Enhancement for 2020 Ram 1500 New Body
Due to the better ride quality they'd provide, I'd recommend the SumoSprings Solo, part # SSR-307-47 over the Timbren # TDR1500DQ springs you'd looked at. The SumoSprings offer up to 1500 lbs of additional support, and will help level, absorb bumps and minimize sway and body roll during turns. The springs offer progressive load control, which means that the more weight that's applied, the stiffer they become. This means that you'll still have a comfortable ride under light or no loads...

  • Timbren Rear Springs and Spacers for Lifted 2019 Ram 1500 2wd New Body Style Bighorn
The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR1500DQ has an overall height of 5-1/2 inches as you can see at the 1:45 minute mark of the attached video. For spacers you can use Timbren 1" Spacer For Raised Frame Vehicles - 1/2" bushing # TA25723-90AD00 or 1/2 inch spacer # TA25722-90F00. This will require a longer 10mm bolt grade 8 for any additional height. You don't want the complete distance to be filled with the spring and spacers because it will give you a rough ride when there...

  • 2020 Ram 1500 Still Squats with Timbrens Installed
The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR1500DQ is a good option for a 2020 Ram 1500. That said, it won't get rid of all squat since the suspension has to reach a threshold before they even engage. If you like, you can get rid of more squat by adding spacers to have them engage sooner, the Timbren Spacer part # TA25722-90P00 for 1/2" or part # A25723-90AH00 for 1". That said, the above can result in a rougher ride so a better option would indeed be stiffer coil springs,...

  • Could Timbren Suspension Enhancement Fit 2019 Ram Rebel
In 2019 air suspension was optional for the 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel models like what you have so you'd need to determine what style of suspension you have. The suspension kits we offer for your truck like the Timbren # TDR1500DQ do not fit with the air suspension. We don't have anything similar that would either. But if you have standard coil suspension these kits would work well.

  • Will Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement TDR1500DQ Work on 2019 Ram 1500 to Reduce Sag
On your 2019 Ram 1500 the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR1500DQ that you referenced is going to do a really great job of reducing the rear sag you're experiencing when hooked up to the 5th wheel trailer. Please just note that these particular springs won't fit the Regular Cab models of the 1500. The durable jounce-style springs are simply going to replace the truck's factory bounce stops. They are nearly twice the size of the OEM units (both in height and width) and...

  • Can Timbren Suspension Enhancement Fit 2016 Ram 1500 with Lift Kit
Yes, Timbren does offer spacers that allow a lifted truck like your 2016 Ram 1500 use a Timbren kit like the # TDR1500DQ and still have the correct amount of distance between the frame and the Timbren spring. For a 1 inch spacer you'd need the part # A25723-90AH00 and then for a 1/2 inch spacer you'd need the part # TA25722-90P00. The spacers are sold individually so you'd need to order a quantity that matches the space you need to take up for each side of the axle. So if the distance...

  • Suspension Enhancement to Reduce Suspension Sag
The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement system you referenced, part # TDR1500DQ might be a good choice for you, depending on what is causing the suspension to sag in the first place. If the suspension is sagging because of cargo carried in the truck bed or cargo area, the Timbrens would be an excellent choice. When the truck bed or cargo area is unloaded, they are typically sitting a bit above the axle and have no effect on the vehicle ride until its loaded. Once load is added to the...

  • How do you Determine the Tongue Weight for a Weight Distribution Hitch
The tongue weight of a weight distribution hitch like the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control part # FA94-00-0600 is calculated by adding the tongue weight of your fully loaded trailer and anything you have loaded behind the rear axle of the towing vehicle. The one listed above is rated for 400-600 lbs. of TW. The systems vary in capacity and can be matched to your application. • Timbrens For 2020 Ram 1500 With Rear Sag Towing Heavier Fifth Wheel Trailer
There is a Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System that is compatible with the 2020 Ram 1500 4WD with part # TDR1500DQ as confirmed by Timbren. Since you are experiencing rear sag I do recommend to use the Timbrens because they are the best option to reduce the sag. They are made of a dense rubber material that increases the stability of the suspension when hauling heavier loads. They also act as a shock absorber to extend the life of your suspension. • Recommended Rear Timbren Springs for 2019 Ram 1500 2WD Towing Travel Trailer
The best Timbren Suspension Kit for your 2019 Ram 1500 2WD is the Rear Springs # TDR1500DQ. These will provide plenty of support for the tongue weight from your new trailer, as they have robust 8,600 pound weight capacity. I'm not sure how tall the factory bump stops are on your Ram, but I can tell you the Timbren springs have an overall height of 5-1/2" (see attached image). Ideally you will maintain 1 to 1-1/2" of clearance between the spring and contact point after installation....

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement System for a 2017 Ram 1500
For your 2017 Ram 1500, I recommend using the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR1500DQ. The newer Ram trucks have coil springs in the rear as opposed to the standard leaf spring setup. The coil springs are great for handling and ride comfort but not the best for towing as they have a tendency to sag. The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System will do an excellent job of taking some the rear end sag out of your Ram while towing. The best thing about the springs...

For what you are doing the lighter capacity will be the way to go. It will give you the support you need but won't be nearly as harsh as the 8.6k kit.

  • Comparing the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancements and Air Lift AirCell Custom Helper Springs
The main difference between the discontinued Air Lift AirCell Custom Helper Springs Kit part # AL52205 and the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR1500DQ is the hardness of material. The Timbren's are made of a much harder material than the AirCell's. This means that the Timbren's will provide more support but they may also have a rougher ride. Please note that the quality of the ride would only be affected while loaded. I personally like the Timbren's better and they...

However, if you are looking for something that will take out the sag at the rear end of the pickup when connected to a travel trailer then the best option is weight distribution.
