Question:
I have a 1999 Holiday Rambler Admiral with a 6 pin rectangle connector installed. Dont know if it is the original installed by manufacture or not. I want to install a new connector to flat tow a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. I have identified , and tested, the white ground, Yellow left turn, Green right turn and Brown tail/brake wires and they work fine. My question is, there is also a Red and Grey wire coming out of the RVs wiring harness that I cant ID or find out what they were used for. I thought that the Red may be a constant 12v dc power source from the coach, but it has no power on it, the same with the Grey wire. I wanted to use a constant 12v source thru the plug, to power the brake system in the toad. If I cant ID these two wires, Ill tape them off and run a hot wire from the RV and tie into the connector. What would be the best power source for the 12v, from the chassis or coach battery and what size wire should I install ?

As you can see in the attached diagram, a 6-way should have 12V power and the other function is usually a brake controller output. I recommend checking your fuses to determine if one has blown and that is causing the 12V not to show power; your RV's owner's manual should have the fuse locations for you to take a look at. If you do need to run a wire you can do so from your RV's battery by using the right amount of 10 gauge wire # 10-1-1 with Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-10 and a 40 amp circuit breaker # 9510.
For new connectors I recommend the RoadMaster 6-Wire Connectors - Trailer and Vehicle Ends # RM-910030-6. Also please keep in mind that for a 2009 Wrangler, depending on the supplemental braking system you are using you may be required to use Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751452, or, because the battery on your Wrangler must also be disconnected to tow, the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332.
I've added links to video reviews of these parts for you to take al ook at.
