I was curious if this hitch would work on a 6.5 or 5.5 Foot bed without an offset or is just made for a longbed truck?

Technically you can use the Demco Recon # DM8550045, that has a 3" offset, on a truck that has a 6-1/2 foot or 5-1/2 foot bed, but you will not have the trailer-to-cab clearance for tight turns like you would with an 8 foot bed.

If you had industry standard base rails then I would recommend using a sliding 5th wheel hitch, or a stationary hitch along with a Reese Sidewinder like part # RP34FR. Since you have a gooseneck hitch there are a few options available but they are mainly for the 6-1/2 foot bed and involve an offset adapter.

The only exception to this rule would be if you had a B&W gooseneck hitch installed in your truck. If that were the case for a 6-1/2 foot bed you could then use the B&W Companion Slider # BWRVK3400.
