How to Pull a U.S. Trailer That has Electric Brakes with 2009 Audi Q7 That has European 7-Way

Updated 11/28/2017 | Published 11/27/2017

Question:

Hi Adam and thanks for great articles. I have an Airstream, Excella 1988, which I imported to Europe. I am getting a class 3 hitch for an Audi Q7 2009 to pull it, but then I need to get the electric cable to work. I was hoping to get a converter so I can use the European 7 pin socket on the car with my US trailer plug. Really important that the electric breaks work too : Bjorn

In order to pull a trailer that has a U.S. 7-way connector on it with your 2009 Audi Q7, you need to remove your European 7-pin. That pin has the same functions as a U.S. 4-way so you'd need to install converter # RM-732 and install a 4-way connector # 18002. I am going under the assumption your Audi does not have a factory tow package so from there you need to install Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 to use with a brake controller such as the Prodigy P3 # 90195. I've added links to video reviews of these products for you to take a look at.
