Should There be a Space Between the Bearing and Seal on a Hub
Updated 11/27/2017 | Published 11/24/2017 >
Question:
On my 1970 Dilly boat trailer there is a space of 1/8-3/16 inch between the grease seal and the inner bearing when installing this kit. This is my first time to try to install bearings/kit. Should there be a gap? If so, what keeps the bearing from moving back toward the seal and/or back and forth between the seal and the race?

Although there is no specific measurement for that space between the bearing and grease seal, when installing the seal you will only insert it enough so that it is flush with the hub. This is the same case if you are installing the Bearing Kit # DL21792 that you referenced.
I have attached a video of a seal being replaced that you can use as a reference.
Also, you will want to be sure that the bearings and seals that you use for replacements are the exact same as what you have now.
