How Many Pumps of Grease Should be Put in an Axle

Updated 07/21/2025 | Published 05/18/2018

Question:

How many squirts should I use per wheel on an enclosed tandem axle trailer with the fitting in middle of each wheel?

Keep pumping grease into the fittings until you start to see a little grease seeping through the outer bearing. This means that you have packed as much grease as will fit into your spindle. Be sure to check that the grease isn't coming out the back of the axle though because that means you have a bad seal.

This is completely wrong I wouldn't ever tell anyone that entirely to much grease. Brgs only need what you pack in the brgs.

@JamieS So, what would your advice be for someone with an EZ-Lube spindle? Do you recommend that they remove the hub and repack the bearings as opposed to topping it off?

@JonG no I'm not saying that completely you just can't pump that much into that cavity you'll be way over filled. I've tried this b4 it seems to take 6 to 8 pumps just to get the grease to where it finds the big. So just keep that in mind. You don't need to grease bearings every year either there is alot of wasted bearing pack out there

@James Thanks for the recommendation! I appreciate it! A few pumps just to top it off does make sense.
