Question:

Hi . I have an after market rack on my truck that is Basically a lumber rack. I believe the crossbars are a little less than 2 inches round. Can I use the jay low carrier?

The Yakima JayLow Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs - J-Style - Folding - Side Loading # Y04073 most likely will not work with almost 2 inch diameter bars. The standard round bars on a roof rack are 1-1/8 inches diameter. The JayLow can fit bars 1-11/16 inches tall so if they are that diameter or under it would fit but any larger would not.

If you use a carrier like the Malone J-Pro2 Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs - J-Style - Fixed Arms - Clamp On # MPG117MD you could make it work with some longer hardware because of the sandwich style clamp. I've attached a video to assist.

I bought a roof rack with round bars for my kayak. It was a tag sale purchase. I want to purchase the kayak carrier for a single kayak. What do you suggest? Thanks

If you have standard round bars, the above-mentioned Yakima JayLow # Y04073 is actually a great option. Unlike a lot of carriers, the Yakima models feature molded clamps that won't slide around on round bars.
