Trailer Wiring Recommendation for 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, w/o factory Towing. There appear to be three wiring harnesses that will work: Curt 55451 Tekonsha 118394 and Hopkins HM42545 The Hopkins Wiring has a hot lead to power the converter whereas the other two simply have a converter, not powered. Curt and Tekonsha would be simpler but Hopkins seems to be safer. Can you explain the benefit of one type over the other? Thanks

Basically you have it figured out pretty well already.
The Curt and Tekonsha are going to be quite a bit easier to install since you don't have to route a power wire, but the Hopkins overall will be the safer and more reliable option since it has that circuit protection. If it were me and I planned on towing on a regular basis at all I would go with the part # HM42545.
