For your 2012 GMC Terrain, The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13591 the M12-1.75 x 40mm hex bolts are confirmed to fit the weld nuts of your vehicle frame. If you are having a difficult time getting the bolts to thread, then I recommend gently using a wire brush to clean the threads of the weld nuts. Be careful not to use too much force as you could damage the threads, but a wire brush will remove any dirt or debris that is keeping the bolts from properly installing.
A different size bolt will not fit the weld nuts and may also change the strength of the trailer hitch receiver.
