Question:
I have a 2010 xterra with class III hitch factory installed. I am towing a starcraft rt11, tongue weight of 291lbs. with just trailer no extra weight on tongue or in trunk of car my the rear of my car sits close to 1inch lower than with no trailer. Everything I have read for xterras recommends weight distribution hitches, due to the short wheelbase. Is the Reese SC hitch with 600lb tongue weight rating appropriate? Is it overkill to have a weight distribution hitch for a popup camper?

For your 2010 Nissan Xterra, a weight distribution hitch is not overkill as long as you have the correct weight capacity. Weight distribution systems allow you to carry even a minimal tongue weight more dispersed for less sag and better overall ride. You are correct to accommodate the system for loaded tongue weight as well as any cargo behind the rear axle as that functions as additional tongue weight. For your system I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion - 4,500 lbs GTW, 450 lbs TW # FA92-00-0450 for your pop-up camper. You will also need a hitch ball like the Curt 2" Hitch Ball - 1" Diameter x 2-1/4" Long Shank - Chrome - 12,000 lbs # 40038.
Another option is to use suspension enhancement on your vehicle. For this, I recommend the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SSR-210-47. These springs will compress as needed to help support the weight when towing so you won't have that sag issue. These are an easy installation and zero maintenance.
