Most brake controllers stick out and take up knee room, but the Tow-Pro Trail tucks nearly everything behind the dash. All you see is a small knob on the console—just 9/16" wide and 1-7/8" long including the knob. It looks like a factory switch, not an add-on. That single knob handles it all: adjusting brake power, pressing manual override, and showing color-coded alerts as you drive.

Slow crawls through sand, mud, or steep grades can make towing unpredictable. The Tow-Pro Trail’s off-road mode gives you direct control over trailer braking no matter what your tow vehicle is doing. Set it light in soft terrain so the trailer doesn’t dig in, or turn it up on descents so it doesn’t push from behind. To activate, rotate the knob to 0, apply your brakes, then push down twice within one second—the LED glows green when it’s ready.

No jerky starts or stops here. A built-in 3-axis accelerometer senses your vehicle’s braking and sends an equal amount of power to the trailer brakes. Heavy pedal means strong braking; light pedal means gentle braking. It works with electric and electric-over-hydraulic systems on trailers with up to 3 axles (6 brake assemblies). The result is balanced braking that keeps everything steady and reduces wear on tires and pads.

Splicing wires is a pain, so this setup skips that entirely. The included plug-and-play harness connects right into your tow port and the controller module. The main unit can mount anywhere within reach of the 3' cable—under trim panels or behind dash plastics—using screws, tape, or zip ties (not included). A universal mounting panel comes in the box for a clean finish that looks built in from day one.

The Tow-Pro Trail runs on 12V or 24V systems with an output range of 9V–32V and handles 25 amps continuous current. It meets UNECE R21 and FMVSS 201 safety standards for durability inside the cab. Once calibrated—about twenty normal brake applications—the LED shows solid blue, and you’re ready to tow with consistent performance wherever you go.

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Redarc Tow Pro Trail Proportional Brake Controller with Custom Wiring Harness. Now, this brake controller has been designed to fit your 2005 to 2013 Nissan Armada, and then your 2005 to 2025 Nissan Frontier, then your 2012 to 2021 NV 1500, 2500 and 3500, then your 2005 to 2020 Pathfinder, your 2004 Pathfinder Armada, your 2004 to 2024 Titan, and then your 2016 to 2024 Titan XD, and then finally, your 2005 to 2015 Xterra. Now, on custom-fit parts such as this brake controller, I do recommend taking advantage of our Vehicle Fit Guide here at etrailer.com. Just enter the year, make, and model of your vehicle, and answer any additional questions that might ask you, and the Fit Guide will confirm that this will work for you, or if we have something comparable that will work for you. Now, this brake controller, as you probably know, is going to require minimal dash space in your Nissan, and it's gonna be very simple to install and operate.
This is going to have a factory look and feel. This is going to look like it's always belonged on your dash or on your console, and it's really going to take up very little space inside the cab of your vehicle. So, this brake controller is gonna activate your trailer brakes in proportion to your Nissan's braking action. It will automatically adjust the trailer's braking based on the deceleration of your tow vehicle, and this brake controller comes with a unique feature that lets you respond to any terrain or weather that you meet while on the road. The User Control Mode that this has is going to give you direct control over your trailer's braking, so you can have exactly the level of power output you need for any situation.
So, this is gonna be perfect for off-roading or adverse weather conditions. And in that mode, the Tow Pro Trail will apply your trailer's brakes with the same preset amount of power each time you activate the brakes in your Nissan. You can set the power low if you're towing through sand or mud so that the trailer doesn't stop with too much force or act as an anchor, and then when you're on a steep descent, you can set the power to a higher level to ensure that the trailer's momentum doesn't cause it to push against your tow vehicle. Now, this does come with this control knob that you're going to mount, like I said, in your dash, or another easily accessible area. It's going to allow for quick and easy adjustment of the braking power with just a turn of the dial here, and then it's also going to provide manual override by just pressing the knob to activate it, and it does offer simple diagnostics with a bright-colored LED dial.
Now, this main unit here is going to install out of sight, so there's not going to be any banging of your knee on a bulky controller when you're climbing into your vehicle. There's not gonna be any interference with airbags or other vehicle accessories, and, of course, no hard-to-reach override lever, or impossible-to-read screen. This can be mounted in any position, direction and angle with the included mounting kit that you see here on the table, and what's great about this is there's not gonna be any complicated wiring. The custom-fit wiring harness is going to let you plug this in and go, and if you don't already have a seven-way plug at the back of your vehicle, take a look at our exclusive 7 and 4-Way Brake Controller Installation Kit. You can find that by popping in the Part Number ETBC7 in the search field of our website and that will take you to that kit.
You can look it over if you are in in need of a seven-way on the back of your vehicle. This is going to meet or exceed both UNECE R21 and FMVSS 201 regulations for sustainability and safety. This brake controller is for trailers with up to three axles, six brake assemblies. It's designed to work, or it's designed for use rather with your electric or electric-or-hydraulic trailer brakes, and it does work with 12 volt and 24 volt vehicle electrical systems. Before we wrap up our time together, lemme give you some measurements of the brake controller itself. Again, this is gonna be mounted out of sight, so it looks like the overall length are about four inches long. The overall width, about 3 3/8 inches wide, and then the overall height, about 1 1/8 inches tall. Instructions are going to be included with this to guide you through the installation and operation, and again, this does include everything that you see here. But I think that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that our time together has been helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.

It worked great - thank you!
Great product with easy install. It works perfectly. Thanks for the recommendation etrailer!
I called for further information on another Redarc Controller. Will was very polite and helpful, clarifying the finer details and fielding my questions prior to purchase. Excellent products and customer service from etrailer. Many thanks.
Just like OEM at a cheaper price and not on back order for three months like Mopar.
Very easy to install and works great
They always have what I need, makes things simple and easy.
Super product! Easy to install and setu p.
I wasn’t sure spending the extra money on this was necessary cause I had always been using the other style controls for ever and they worked fine. I bought this because of the limited leg room under my dash on my new rig. After installing this, not only did I have more refined braking control, I mounted the control knob where I didn’t have to hunch over to reach for adjustment or manual braking. And now the reason for buying it was just an added bonus.
The Redarc controller that I ordered to install in my Lexus GX460 was perfect! I ordered the Tow Pro Trail version. The harness to connect the factory trailer harness under the dash was the correct one for my Lexus. lling the controller that se are a little more work than installing the ones that hang under the dash, but well worth it!
Just works very well.
Awesomeness... Thank you.. HELL YEH... Merry Christmas to All at etrailer
Great workmanship and easy to install. I installed the main unit right below the steering wheel behind the panel per the video by redarc. If you install the dial where the 12v outlet plug is currently located, you can find another place to put your 12v port like i did. It was simple to adjust to my tandem axle trailer. Glad I purchased this instead of the more expensive factory controller.
Easy to install. And, with plug n play for the Bronco, once the trailer was hooked up it was ready for use.
Installation was a breeze with the custom harness. Plug and play with all the electrical components. I adapted a marine surface mount 12 volt plug housing as a mounting solution for the control knob, eliminating the need for any drilling.
For my 2021 Gladiator with factory tow. Everything including specific harness and little round mount for the control knob to replace the 12v outlet was in the kit. Hardest part of install was learning how to open the dash panel. The controllor powered up and is working as expected on normal road driving. Very straight forward and no struggles.
Highly recommend!!
Installed in a modified Tacoma, with a serious off-road trailer. I use this system camping / off-road 40+ nights per year, mostly in the Sierra Mts. I have blown 2 other brake systems which caused unsafe conditions. I had just a few hours to install the RedArc system before leaving on a trip. The truck specific plug and play setup was quick and easy with a very clean simple dash button. It has been dependable over the year.
Love it when you get the right parts, at the right price, at the right time.
Excellent product. Updated from a Curt wireless Bluetooth controller. The installation of the Redarc is plug and play. No modifications of any kind required. Being able to manually set brake force and to operate the trailer brakes independently is just great. Highly recommend.
Its great. Works just as advertised. The only gripe is that the provided switch slot is not the factory one for the frontier and it moves around. I ended up modifying the blank switch cover and using that instead, but overall a great kit. Wiring was easy with the provide harness for the frontier.
I always deal with etrailer , best prices , quality items , great fast shipping
Parts are perfect for my vehicle. Etrailer makes it too easy. Great comunication also.Plug and play just like advertised.
