Factory Air Ride Suspension or Aftermarket Air Springs for 2017 Ram 3500

Updated 06/28/2017 | Published 06/23/2017

Question:

We are placing an order for a 2017 Ram 3500 Mega Cab. We will be towing a 15,000# fifth wheel with 2,438 pin weight. Should we the factory air ride suspension or install a Firestone or Air Lift suspension? Price not being a factor, which way is best? Thank you

Based on my research, the factory air ride suspension for the 2017 Ram 3500 will essentially replace the coil spring suspension on the vehicle. This will provide some nice features and the decision is ultimately up to you, but I do recommend going with an aftermarket system instead, such as the Firestone Ride Rite Air Helper Springs # F2560, as long as the truck has 4 wheel drive.

The main reason I recommend an aftermarket suspension enhancement over the factory air ride system is the simple fact that an aftermarket product like the Firestone is going to enhance the existing suspension on the vehicle, not completely replace it. If something were to be damaged with the Firestone Springs, you will still have the truck's OEM suspension in good working order ti fall back on. Conversely, if the factory air ride suspension on the Ram were to blow, your entire suspension system would be affected.

This Firestone kit is confirmed to fit the 2017 Ram 3500 and will increase stability and improve ride quality. The air bags can be adjusted manually, side to side, to maintain even load distribution. These have a load-leveling capacity of 5,000 pounds with adjustable air pressure from 5 psi to 100 psi. All of the items necessary for installation will be included.

I have also attached an installation video for you to check out.
