How to Tell if 2007 Lexus RX 350 Has Factory Tow Package

Updated 06/02/2020 | Published 04/24/2017

Question:

My 2007 RX350 has the 30AMP fuse marked towing in the fuse box. How can I determine if I just need the wiring harness from the connection in the rear panel drivers side or if I need the entire kit with convertor etc. Thanks for the help.

The 30 amp fuse marked for towing that is located in the fuse box of your 2007 Lexus RX 350 does not necessarily indicate if the vehicle has the factory tow package installed. The actual features of a tow package vary greatly between different auto manufacturers, vehicle model years and models.

Looking at the online owner's manual for your vehicle, it appears that the factory tow package included a trailer hitch receiver. If the vehicle did not have a factory hitch, and an aftermarket trailer hitch needed to be installed, then you most likely do not have a tow package. If this is the case, I recommend using the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118478 to install a 4-way trailer connector. The T-One connector will plug directly into existing wiring behind the trim panels in the cargo area on your vehicle. I have attached the installation details for you to check out.

If your vehicle does have the factory tow package, there should already be a 4-way connector at the rear of your vehicle along with the factory installed hitch. If you are unsure of what you have, I recommend checking with your local Lexus dealer. Using the vehicle's VIN, they should be able to tell you exactly what was installed at the factory on your vehicle.

Did you install the Tekonsha T-One Harness # 118478 mentioned above? If so, there aren't any other components that need to be added for it to power the trailer's lights when connected. This harness simply tees into the tail light circuits. Did you make sure to run the hot lead up to the vehicle's battery?
