Question:

Hello, i have a HF folding 4x8 trailer that I made into a camper. Im concerned about the current tire size 4.80/4.00 x 8 vs. the weight of the camper and would like to ugrade tires. As you can see in the pictures I am limited on space between tire and camper but would like a larger tire that can carry more weight. Can you recommend a tire to upgrade to in a 4 bolt pattern? If a larger tire does not clear the camper, can I upgrade to a longer axle and keep the current leaf springs?? Please help!

When it comes to a trailer's weight carrying capacity the lowest-rated part of the trailer - either the frame, axle, hubs, wheels or tires - will determine if more capacity can be added. If the tires were the lowest-rated component then changing them to another size or simply to a higher load range in the same size could give you more capacity/safety margin. But if the tires are not the "weakest link" then upgrading them does not add capacity to your trailer.

In your size 4.80/4.00-8 we do offer both LR-B and LR-C options on a 4-on-4 wheel. You can see all on the linked page. Parts # AM30040 and # AM30050 are both LR-C tires that can handle 745-lbs each at their rated 90-psi pressure. This is 155-lbs more per tire than the LR-B tires shown and using a pair in place of the lower B-rated tires would give you 310-lbs additional capacity.

If you know the frame is able to handle more weight you might consider using a Timbren axle-less suspension kit. These bolt right on to the frame and are available in many weight ratings, as shown on the linked page. Installing a Timbren kit means no more leaf springs under the trailer (better ground clearance).
